2022 Retirement Changes
The collective bargaining agreements known as “SEBAC 2011” and “SEBAC 2017” made changes to the terms of retirement for all state employees retiring on or after August 1, 2022.
How to retire
To begin the retirement process, please reach out to your agency directly and they will provide you with the necessary forms.

In addition to your plan’s detailed summary plan description, below are some resources to help you understand your plan. Use the calculator to estimate your benefit by entering your retirement scenario, view videos of full workshops or common topics and questions or schedule a counseling session where we can address your direct questions and details particular to you.
Group counseling session sign up
The Retirement Services Division hosts monthly group counseling sessions for State employees that are intending to retire in the near future.
Please note that these sessions consist of a brief presentation that covers the basics of the retirement process for the State Employees Retirement System (SERS). These sessions do not cover the Alternate Retirement Program (ARP) or the Teachers Retirement System (TRS). Disability retirement group counseling session sign up
The Retirement Services Division hosts monthly disability group counseling sessions for State employees that are considering whether to apply for a disability retirement from SERS.
These sessions are divided into two parts: Part-One covers how to apply for disability retirement and what you can expect during that process; Part-Two covers what happens after you are approved for a disability benefit and what to expect going forward as you collect your benefit.
Please note that these sessions do not cover the Alternate Retirement Program (ARP) or the Teachers Retirement System (TRS).
