(HARTFORD, CT) – Comptroller Sean Scanlon today released the following statement upon the Connecticut General Assembly’s passage of Senate Bill 1239An Act Concerning A Fallen Officer and Firefighter Fund and Providing Health Insurance Coverage to Survivors of a Firefighter Killed in the Line of DutyEarlier this legislative session, Comptroller had called for expansion of the legislation to include emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics, renaming it the “Fallen Hero Fund.”

“Connecticut first responders put their lives on the line for our communities every day. And in the tragic event where one of our police officers, firefighters, EMTs or paramedics loses their life in the line of duty, we must vow to support their families. The Fallen Hero Fund will do just that, providing immediate monetary support and access to healthcare coverage for their families. I am beyond honored to administer this fund and thank the members of the legislature for their support and passage.”
