MEDICAL EXAMINING BOARD
FRIDAY, August 11, 2017

A Meeting of the Medical Examining Board was held on Friday, August 11, 2017, at the Office of the State Comptroller, 55 Elm Street, Room 208, Hartford, Connecticut, 06106.

PRESENT:

Please note that a portion of the meeting was conducted in executive session as the focus of the meeting was the medical condition(s) of each Disability Retirement applicant.

CALL TO ORDER

The Chairperson called meeting to order at 9:04 am.
Dr. Lieders motioned to amend the agenda, seconded by Dr. Rudich at 9:05 am.
Amended to the agenda:

Dr. Lieders motioned to go into the Executive Session to discuss medical condition(s) related to the applications for Disability Retirement, seconded by Dr. Rudich at 9:06 am. Members of the Retirement Services Division and the General Counsel to the Commission were invited to stay during Executive Session. There was a brief break from 11:00 am to 11:06 am.

1. Domenic Pistolesi appeared before the Board and made a statement at 11:07 am. He was excused by the Board at 11:08 am.
2. Nancy Purvis and Attorney Barbara Collins appeared before the Board at 11:10 am. Attorney Collins made a statement and they were excused by the Board at 11:12 am.
3. Gregory Thorner appeared before the Board and made a statement at 11:13 am. He was excused by the Board at 11:15 am.
   

Dr. Lieders motioned to come out of Executive Session, seconded by Dr. Ghandour at 11:17 a.m.

Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to continue the disability retirement of Walter Bertotti. Motion approved unanimously.

LELIA BOUYER         D-10686         CONTINUED ENTITLEMENT
Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to continue the disability retirement of Lelia Bouyer. Motion approved unanimously.

PAUL CICARELLA         D-10902         CONTINUED ENTITLEMENT
Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to table the disability retirement of Paul Cicarella. Motion approved unanimously.

ERSKINE EDWARDS         D-11437         CONTINUED ENTITLEMENT
Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to discontinue the disability retirement of Erskine Edwards. Motion approved unanimously.

ANN ENGEL         D-11294         CONTINUED ENTITLEMENT
Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to discontinue the disability retirement of Ann Engel. Motion approved unanimously.

Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to continue the disability retirement of Robert Jasinski. Motion approved unanimously.

Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to continue the disability retirement of Laurel Kahak. Motion approved unanimously.

DEBORAH KOVAC         D-11535         CONTINUED ENTITLEMENT
Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to continue the disability retirement of Deborah Kovac. Motion approved by majority decision. Dr. Ghandour dissents.

Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to continue the disability retirement of Catherine McMahon. Motion approved unanimously.

Dr. Lieders moved, seconded by Dr. Rudich, to continue the disability retirement of Gregory Thorner. Motion approved unanimously.
