The meeting was called to order at 11:05 a.m by Mr. Newman
The item on the agenda was previously tabled by the Subcommittee at its September 20, 2018 meeting so as to further fact-finding information could be ascertained for the claim of: John Materra
The hazardous duty provisions of SERS provide that employees in classifications exempt from collective bargaining must engage in custodial or instructive duties in order to receive hazardous duty retirement credit for such employment.
Attorney Suma gave a summary of the case in support of his client. Mr. Materra then provided testimony and also responded to questions posed by the Subcommittee. Joanna James also gave a brief statement and answered questions posed by the Trustees.
Mr. Fortier moved, seconded by Ms. Buffkin that the subcommittee make the recommendation to table the request by Mr. Materra for hazardous duty retirement plan coverage for his service in the position of State School Principal 2 from March 22, 2002 to June 29, 2006. The Subcommittee unanimously approved the motion.
