State Comptroller Nancy Wyman has received the Ruth Ann Lobo Award for raising awareness about breast cancer through her decade of work on behalf of the CT Komen Race for the Cure.

The award - named for Ruth Ann Lobo, a 10-year survivor of breast cancer and mother of former UConn basketball star Rebecca Lobo - is given to "a breast cancer survivor or supporter who by her energy and example has raised awareness that there is life after breast cancer."

Wyman was presented the award by Ruth Ann on Saturday, May 10, after the race that drew nearly 15,000 runners, walkers and supporters to Walnut Hill Park in New Britain.

Wyman has been involved in the Race for the Cure since its inception 10 years ago, including serving as an honorary co-chairwoman on race day and helping draw support for the event through televised public-service announcements.

"I have been honored to play a small role in this incredible and inspiring event," Wyman said. 'The energy and spirit that make the race a success every spring is the spirit that is going to lead to a cure for breast cancer."
