WYMAN PRESENTS AWARDS TO STUDENT WINNERS OF
BLACK HISTORY MONTH ESSAY CONTEST

Five high school juniors from Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport were presented awards by State Comptroller Nancy Wyman for their entries in an essay contest celebrating Black History Month.

The contest, created and administered by the Comptroller's office, was open to high school juniors in Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport. The winners received U.S. Savings Bonds in a ceremony held February 14 at the State Capitol that was attended by the students, family and friends.

"This contest was not only a great way for these students to explore the heritage of African-Americans, but was an incredible learning experience for myself and my staff," Wyman said. "Everyone involved in this project was rewarded with new insight into a very important part of our nation's history."
