State Comptroller Nancy Wyman has been honored by the Connecticut Association of Optometrists for her work to provide quality health care and medical insurance to state residents.
Wyman, a Democrat from Tolland, received the award Nov. 22 at the association's annual dinner at the Foxwoods Casino, where she was recognized for ``her dedication and commitment to providing quality health care."
The comptroller's office procures and administers health insurance for 166,000 state employees, retirees and their dependents. Wyman also has taken an active role in a number of important health issues, especially those concerning children, senior citizens and women.
Wyman also led a task force earlier this year that studied ways to improve access to medical care for uninsured residents in Connecticut. The group's work led to expanded Medicaid eligibility for children.
Some of the group's recommendations also were included in the governor's HUSKY plan for uninsured children, approved by the legislature in October.
Earlier this month, Wyman received a similar honor from the Connecticut State Medical Society, an association of 6,800 state physicians.
