Increase in GSA Mileage Reimbursement Rate |
I. GSA Mileage Rate Increased To 34.5 Cents Per Mile
- According to the Federal Register dated January 22, 2001, the General
Services Administration (GSA) of the Federal Government is increasing the
reimbursement rate from 32.5 cents to 34.5 cents per mile for use of
privately-owned automobiles when authorized as advantageous to the
Government. This change to the Federal Travel rates is effective for
travel performed on or after January 22, 2001.
II. Impact on State Mileage Reimbursement Rates
- The "mileage reimbursement rate" under many State collective
bargaining unit agreements is subject to upward adjustment within 30 days of
the revision to the Federal GSA rate. Agencies should refer to the
applicable collective bargaining agreements for details.

- The above provisions do not necessarily apply to Managerial and
Confidential employees. For Managers and Confidential employees:
"Mileage reimbursement will be at the prevailing rate authorized by the
Commissioner of Administrative Services with the approval of the Secretary
of the Office of Policy and Management." The Department of
Administrative Services will notify agencies when the managerial and
confidential rate is changed.

- Managerial employees governed by the Boards of Higher Education will be
notified by their respective boards.
