Attention: Chief Administrative and Fiscal Officers, Business Managers, and Payroll and Personnel Officers
Subject: Revision of Maximum Per Diem Rates for Localities

The federal per diem rates stated in Memorandum No. 97-67 have been revised for travel in the United States effective January 1, 1999. New per diem localities have been added. Federal per diem rates for meals and incidental expenses are $30, $34, $38, $42 and $46 dependent on the locality. A detailed listing of all localities in the United States including Alaska and Hawaii is attached in the revised Appendix A.

Information concerning per diem rates for travel in foreign countries can be found on the Department of State website at http//www.state.gov/www/perdiems/index.html.

Any collective bargaining meals, per diem and incidental expenses exceeding the applicable rate are reportable.
